Types of Polishing Pads

A polishing pad is a device that can be used to put on the polish to a surface and process it in a motorized way. Though these are most frequently used in combination with a machine polisher, some polishing pads are also there to be used by hand.

A polishing pad assists in the distribution of polishing agents to the surface, and to run it into the surface in a precise manner. The substance used to produce the polishing pad has been made to use specific characteristics while polishing. More giant cells in the foam can clasp more paint residue or contamination but will shift the polishing agent with less force or friction. The toughness of the material can have a different effect on how the polishing agent is stirred over the surface. Using these exclusive characteristics with the correct product will give you very much control over the end result. It’s important that a dealer knows how to use the right pad for the right task.

Basically, polishing pads are applied to process the polishing agent in a stable and controlled manner. There are several different types of polishing pads available in the market. Some of them are the following.

Foam Polishing Pads

Foam polishing pads are considered the most common type of polishing pads. These are available in a variety of different sizes, colors, forms, and shapes. The main variances with the material itself are the type of the cell, the size of the cell, and the thickness of the cell walls. These alter the stiffness of the pad and its ability of either engrossing material or applying more friction to move it around while polishing. The foam polishing pad is by far the most prevalent type of polishing pad due to the low cost of manufacturing and its many different potentials in design.

Microfiber Polishing Pads

The microfiber polishing pad applies short or long strain fibers on a firm backplate (like thick cloth or rigid foam). The material of microfiber is less capable of engrossing material and/or residue but is able to use more pressure and friction while polishing. The fibers used can be fabricated from different materials, but are usually synthetic in nature.

Wool Polishing Pads

Wool polishing pads are either manufactured from natural wool fibers or synthetic wool fibers. They have been treated to make a common shape and size. They are usually fixed to a firm backplate and can be completed on short fibers or long fibers. The effectiveness of the polishing pad is controlled by these types of fibers. Overall, wool pads, which are rougher foam pads, provide a greater cutting effect. Although practically common, wool pads need more care to keep them maintained in good shape.

PE Fiber Polishing Pads

Polishing pads manufacturers can also make these pads from the synthetics strand of fibers that makes a stable surface. These pads are often used in mixtures with exclusive polishing agents designed to work with these hard and firm materials.
